Student-Athlete Academic Eligibility Requirements

Student-athlete academic eligibility for competition is tied to the number of semesters that the student-athlete is enrolled full-time.

 

Each student-athlete's academic record is reviewed to make sure that the following requirements have been satisfied:

 

Entering third semester (2nd year)
The student-athlete must:

  • be in good academic standing within the university
  • complete 6 hours (during previous semester)
  • complete 18 hours (during previous two semesters)
  • complete 24 hours (during previous year, summer school hours are allowed)
  • have a Texas State GPA of at least 1.80

Entering fifth semester (3rd year)
The student-athlete must have declared a major and:

  • be in good academic standing within the university
  • complete 6 hours (during previous semester)
  • complete 18 hours (during previous two semesters)
  • complete 40% of declared major
  • have a Texas State GPA of at least 1.90

Entering seventh semester (4th year)
The student-athlete must have declared a major and:

  • be in good academic standing within the university
  • complete *6 hours (during previous semester)
  • complete *18 hours (during previous two semesters)
  • complete 60% of declared major
  • have a Texas State GPA of at least 2.00

Entering ninth semester (5th year)
The student-athlete must have declared a major and:

  • be in good academic standing within the university
  • complete *6 hours (during previous semester)
  • complete *18 hours (during previous two semesters)
  • complete 80% of declared major
  • have a Texas State GPA of at least 2.00
 
*Beginning with the fifth semester, hours are acceptable only when they are applicable to the student-athlete's declared major.
