Schedule Production: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the definition of a “First Call Classroom?”

First Call Classrooms are standard classrooms assigned to each department by the Scheduling Committee.

First Call Classrooms may be used by the department to pre-assign their courses  during the initial scheduling stage.

Once the departments have submitted their First Edit schedules to the Registrar's Office, they no longer have priority access to these rooms.

First Call Classrooms that are not scheduled prior to the First Edit submission will be used by the Registrar's Office to place classes that were not able to be pre-assigned.

How do I get permission to schedule a course at a non-standard time?

Permission is granted by the Class Scheduling Committee.  They look at each case individually and take into account a number of things when making the decision to approve or deny a request.  Any requests for exceptions must be submitted in writing by the department chair with appropriate documentation to be reviewed by the Class Scheduling Committee.  You may email your request to the Associate Registrar, Martha E. Fraire at mf29@txstate.edu.

Will my permission for a course at a non-standard time continue after the semester the approval was granted?

No.  Even if a Uniform Class Time exemption was permitted for a previous semester, it will have to be resubmitted and reviewed each semester that it is desired.

How can I get permission to schedule a course in a Teaching Theater?

Academic courses held in Teaching Theaters are scheduled by a committee.  The committee takes into account the utilization if a course has met in the past and whether the department is one that offers a large number of core courses.  To inquire about using a Teaching Theater for academic courses you may email  the Associate Registrar, Martha E. Fraire at mf29@txstate.edu.
